I need it very soon for a jazz band tryout. I also need two blues scales. I paid for mine. You can get it on itunes for. Which part are you playing? Are you just soloing over the changes? Or are you playing the sectional stuff too? Anyway, better to teach a man to fish Take a major scale drop the third note a half step keep the fourth and the fifth but add the half step in between omit the sixth lower the seventh note a half step.
I think that everybody should pay for recordings. No freebies. Regarding blues scales, for a different kind of sound, try playing a G blues scale over a Bb dominant chord. It works really well! I also like playing whole tone and diminished scales over dominant chords. It really shakes things up. Also, once in a while, play a scale on half step over the actual chord.
That makes for a really interesting sound! Steve, do you have any other strategies for playing "outside the scale"? The improvisers that I like the best are the ones who weave in and out of the chordal structure. Steve Davis and Conrad Herwig do a very good job of this. And I have do do this with what chops are left after doing my day job, which can be extremely taxing.
Heck, at the end of the day I usually end up having to ice down my chops as it is. But I will agree, Conrad is amazing!
