More than , Zimbabweans attended the concert, and Bob Marley performed the song "Zimbabwe", an unofficial Zimbabwean anthem. He also stayed with Edgar Tekere during this tour date. He followed his appointment by making a series of outspoken speeches that went far beyond government policy.

Quite a character Tekere was and the following things he said stood out for me and I wonder if they are accurate: 1. Zanu was formed after Nkomo suspended the Zapu leadership which was against him. Ironically, Nkomo led to the formation of Zanu. Ndabaningi Sithole encouraged fellow Zanu leaders I had been looking forward to reading this book which has been out of print for years.
They refused and the Rev suspended them all. RGM had refused to vote against the sacking of Rev Sithole, only agreeing to do so after being blackmailed by Tekere and Co. Mugabe never campaigned for the ouster of Sithole. After independence, Tekere advised RGM against fighting Renamo but to just mediate, as Renamo had assisted them during the war.
Samora never detained RGM and Tekere, he just booked them into luxurious suites and eventually, an apartment. Tekere says he accused RGM, during a central committee meeting in , of trying to assassinate him.

After serving eleven and a half years in prison alongside Robert Mugabe, the men decamped to Mozambique in , a crossing Tekere detailed in his banned in Zimbabwe memoir, A Lifetime of Struggle. It was misty with a light drizzle, and so she was able to light a fire to cook for us, without smoke being seen by our pursuers. She was a spirit medium, a host to Sekuru Dzeka Tangwena, her father-in-law. She told Chiewf Tangwena to take us to Tangadza, another sub-chief of the Tangwena Dynasty, who was living on the Mozambican side of the border.
